One service to rule them all, Profilactic?
Web 2.0, social networking November 3rd, 2006
I think most of the readers of this blog have an account on a web 2.0 related or social networking site like MySpace, YouTube, Del.icio.us, Flickr. And if you have multiple accounts you know it’s hard to keep up to keep them up-to-date. Especially if you have a full-time job. So have I. I love to test out new web 2.0 sites. Some are fun to work on, others are just as boring or become boring over time.
But soon there will be Profilactic. On Profilactic.com you will be able to keep track of all of the things you do online at sites I mentioned above and more sites that provides you with a URL or an RSS feed. I think this is a great idea and can’t wait to test it.
But about a year ago, I got in touch with Jesse who runs a website called Metathings.com which was a project for school. I think he already had the idea of gathering data from the sites you are registered on and that have a RSS feed. IMHO I see a resemblance but haven’t tested Profilactic yet. Maybe it has a different approach of showing aggegated data or posting data on the accounts that are yours. Perhaps in a a way Onlywire bookmarks works? We’ll soon find out.

I registered for a beta account, I’m curious what they’ve created. Metathings.com is like on hold since I graduated, so I should maybe think about something to do with it. I think there is still a potential, but no time for me

I also registered for a Beta account. Wanna see what it’s all about.
I recently discussed Metathings with one of your old fellow students.
But still I thought it was a very good attempt to become something big. Maybe you can sell it to i-Merge and let them work it out.

You don’t need to wait and see. You can check out www.spokeo.com that accomplishes the same thing.

I just registered for Spokeo and it is nothing like what we’re building. Good luck, though.

As I said in a later post, it’s hard to compare a service when one is not online yet. But Spokeo does a nice thing for people who want to read their feeds online. And there is definitly space for improvement, which they will do after reading users comments.
Looking forward to try Profilactic. It sounds promising.
